In this form of the Virgin Hodgetria, the Mother of God does not look directly at the viewer, but inclines her head slightly in a gesture of intercession with her Son on behalf of the world. She supports her Son with her right arm while the other out-stretched “guiding” hand beckons the viewer. Jesus gestures with one hand in blessing and the other holds a small scroll.
Generally the Virgin Hodgetria is shown with Christ on her left arm, this difference accounts for the appellation "Dexiokratousa" (right-handed).
